Let’s be real, Drumheller is outrageously photogenic.
This valley is the heart of Canada’s Badlands, and somehow every turn in the road delivers another “wait, stop, I need a picture” moment. Whether you’re chasing sunsets, dramatic landscapes, or that perfect shot for your grid, this place shows up every single time.
So grab your best friend, charge your phone, and let’s talk about the spots that make people back home wildly jealous.
The Hoodoos
These iconic sandstone towers look like they belong on another planet, and honestly, they kind of do. Carved by millions of years of wind and water, the hoodoos make the ultimate backdrop for adventure photos, moody portraits, and those quiet “wow” moments you did not expect to have.

Horsethief Canyon and Horseshoe Canyon
These dramatic, sweeping landscapes are pure Badlands magic. Sunrise and sunset are when the colours really come alive, with glowing reds, warm oranges, and endless layers of rock that make every photo look like it came straight out of a movie.
The World’s Largest Dinosaur (Tyra)
60 Riverside Dr W, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y0
At 86 feet tall, Tyra is impossible to miss and impossible not to photograph. You can climb inside and take a picture from her mouth, which gives a whole new meaning to being “eaten alive.” It is silly, iconic, and totally Drumheller.

Downtown Dinosaur Trail
Our downtown dinosaurs are quirky, colourful, and basically begging to be in your photos. Maintained by the amazing volunteers from #DinoArts, they turn an ordinary stroll into a scavenger hunt of unexpected photo opportunities. Do not forget to tag them when you share.
Orkney Viewpoint
Kneehill County, AB T0M 0L0
High above the Red Deer River, this viewpoint serves up some of the best views in the valley. It is perfect for romantic couple shots, epic solo portraits, or that family photo that ends up framed on the wall for the next ten years.

Midland Provincial Park
AB-838, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y0
As the sun dips low, Midland becomes pure golden-hour magic. Hoodoos, trails, and wide-open views come together in a way that makes every photo feel warm, soft, and a little bit dreamy.
Honestly, you do not have to try very hard here.
Some of the best shots happen when you are just wandering, exploring, and accidentally stumbling into something beautiful.
Wherever you are in the Drumheller region, an Instagram-worthy moment is never far away.
