A Season for Every Kind of
Adventure

EXPLORE MORE

One of the best things about the Drumheller Valley is that it never truly has an off-season. It just changes outfits.

Sometimes it is snow-dusted hoodoos, cozy theatres, and warm cafés. Sometimes it is blooming cactuses, canyon hikes, and long river walks. Sometimes it is festival lights, live music, roaring engines, or long summer nights downtown. No matter when you show up, something is happening, and chances are, it is something you did not even know you were looking for.

Here is how the year unfolds in the Badlands.

Spring: Art, Cars, and Canyon Energy

Spring is when Drumheller starts to stretch

SpringFest at the East Coulee School Museum marks the return of live outdoor music. It is not just a festival; it is a fundraiser that keeps one of the valley’s most beloved heritage sites alive.

Chainsaw Wizards transforms Drumheller into an open-air art show, where massive trees become incredible sculptures right before your eyes.

Boogie in the Badlands is a downtown classic car takeover that fills the streets with chrome, music, food, and pin-up glamour. If spring had a personality, this would be it.

Racing fans also get their fix as Dinosaur Downs Speedway roars back to life, bringing stock car racing and demolition derby energy to the valley.

Summer: Festivals, Sports, and Long Nights

This is Drumheller in full main-character mode.

Every weekend feels like something is happening.

Motorcycle season hits its stride with rallies, charity events, and weekend ride-ins happening constantly, anchored by major gatherings like the Bone Digger Bike Bash. The event brings show-and-shines, bike games, live music, and hundreds of riders into the valley.

Summer at the Plaza turns downtown into an open-air concert series all summer long.

Canada Day brings parades, fireworks, and family fun.

The Badlands Passion Play fills the Badlands Amphitheatre with storytelling on one of the most dramatic outdoor stages in the country.

Adventure seekers show up for Gran Fondo Badlands, Wild Rose Women’s Triathlon, Lost Egg Disc Golf, and the Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon.

Festival lovers get spoiled with Loud As Hell, Open Air Music Festival in Rosebud, 15 Minutes of Fame, Great Big Weekend at the Badlands Amphitheatre, and Waynestock, the legendary Labour Day weekend party at the Last Chance Saloon.

Culture also takes centre stage at the Dancing with the Dinosaurs Powwow, celebrating Indigenous drumming, dancing, and song. Summer in Drumheller is not just busy; it is electric.

Fall: Run, Ride, and Get Spooky

As the valley turns gold and rust, the events do not slow down; they just get cozier.

Runners take on the Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon. Expect something eerie almost every October weekend, from ghost stories and haunted attractions to cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Napier Theatre, where fishnets, sing-alongs, and absolute chaos are basically mandatory. On Halloween, downtown fills with costumes, candy, and small-town Halloween magic. The Badlands feel a little haunted in the best possible way.

This is also one of the most beautiful times to visit, with cooler days, warm colours, and canyon views that feel almost unreal.

Winter: Lights and Holiday Magic

Drumheller goes full Hallmark Christmas sparkle mode.

Festival of Trees kicks off the season with decorated trees and community creativity.

Badlands Lightfest lights up the Badlands Amphitheatre with installations, music, and fireworks.

Festival of Lights turns downtown into a glowing holiday wonderland.

Christmas in the Coulee brings Atlas Coal Mine and East Coulee School Museum to life with lights, trains, treats, and festive cheer.

It is Hallmark-movie levels of cozy, just with hoodoos.

And the best part? This list is only the beginning. Markets, pop-ups, shows, festivals, races, concerts, and community celebrations are being added all the time. Wherever you land on the calendar, there is something waiting for you.

For the latest dates, lineups, and last-minute surprises, keep an eye on Travel Drumheller’s website and social media. The Badlands always have one more good time up their sleeve.
